State Champions – The Providence Stallions

The Providence Stallions played Coral Springs Christian in the FHSAA Class 3A title game today in Lakeland, Florida.

The Stallions fell behind early to a feisty Coral Springs team, but eventually prevailed 62-56 to take home their second state title in boys hoops.

Led by Grayson Allen’s 31 points, the Jimmy Martin coached squad enjoyed celebrating their success on the court this year and with four returning starters, things look good for another run next year to state.

Todays update from Daytona Beach, Florida –

The Crusaders played Leesburg High School in the second round of action from the Father Lopez Holiday Tournament.

The Leesburg team played a tough, physical game with strong beyond the arc shooting which seemed to take the BK squad out of their rhythm in the first half.

The Crusaders did rally in the second half to overcome what had been an 18 point Leesburg lead to make the final score 60-52. The Crusaders’ record now stands at 10-2.

The Crusaders return to action today at 4:30 against Mainland High School in the tourney consolation game.

The Boys of Fall

Bright and early on Saturday morning I cranked up the old van and headed over to Bishop Kenny to shoot team and individual photos. By the weather you would not know it was time for The Boys of Fall to be out in full pads smacking each other around on the gridiron. But, we live in Florida – it’s hot. The temps were already in the mid 80’s and the humidity was swamp-like on this late August morning. [Read more…]

Night Lights

Under the lights at Bishop Kenny.

Bishop Kenny hosted Ponte Vedra High in state baseball playoff action Friday, May 7. It was a regional semi-final game which saw two talented pitchers go head to head.  It was Elliot Warford for PV and Blaine Foster for BK dueling on the bump.

Both teams went back and forth and were deadlocked 5-5 at the end of seven. In a huge eighth inning explosion, PV scored 12 runs  off the Crusader relievers for which Kenny had no response in their half of the eighth. The final – Ponte Vedra 17 Bishop Kenny 5.

Pitching in the pretty light

Shot a little more baseball today. I love the sport. There is always the challenge of seeing something a little different from the usual. In this photo, the late afternoon light provides a nice key light on pitcher Ryan Todd caught here mid delivery against Buchholz. The Crusaders had a poor outing, going down 17-5 to the Bobcats.

Orange and Blue Debut 2010

The annual spring scrimmage took place April 10, 2010 in Gainesville, Florida. I went down to watch the game with my wife and some friends. I had my trusty Canon G9 with me to get a few snaps of one of my favorite places to spend time away from home. Gainesville is like home away from home for me. [Read more…]
