Moving Towards New Adventures

Today the Class of 2009 officially became the 56th class of students to graduate from Bishop Kenny High School.

I would like to wish them all the best in their adventures through college and on into their professional lives. This image is the highlight of the ceremony for many graduates. After the last name is called, the mortarboards fly high into the air in celebration.

The end of one era. The beginning of another.

January 20, 2009 – Key Ingredient

The Secret Ingredient

What is the key ingredient?

Inspiration can come from the most unlikely of places and events sometimes. I only say this because of the several ideas I had today for getting a few photos, it was not until I arrived home and began to prepare dinner that another brand new idea struck me.

As I collected the ingredients for dinner and stacked them on the counter, I began to notice the colors and textures and how each item played a key role in providing a distinctive flavor and texture that is necessary to make a tasty meal. However, what is the key ingredient (or ingredients) that make for a successful day?

It occurred to me than that each day we go to work or go to play or even relax takes a certain mix of ingredients to be satisfying. Whether it is setting goals, making appointments, listening to a certain music mix, meeting new people or checking another item of the To Do List, each accomplishment brings on a certain sense of accomplishment that leads to another satisfying day at work, play or just plain relaxing. How do you plan and mix the ingredients of your day to make the day satisfying and fulfilling? Bon appetit!

January 2, 2009 – Goals

Well, so far I have continued with my theme of motivation and goal setting in my photos. I really believe in the power of postive thinking and creating goals to stay motivated in my daily work. This shot was my first of the day and really was one of those that just happened. I saw the moon through an opening in the trees. I continued to enjoy my cup of Joe and a few moments later I looked up and saw the vapor trail from the jet and knew I had a shot. I continued to make images for a while, but upon returning home to edit, I saw this one and knew it was my shot for the day.

Tomorrow will be an engagement session with some friends whose wedding I’ll be shooting later this month.

January 1, 2009 – Successes and Failures

Successes and failures. Each are inevitable in our lives. The real test is how we handle successes and failures. What is learned from success? What is learned from failure? How are each handled? Just as the photograph is a contrast in success and failure – the happy Clemson fan and the dejected Clemson kicker (#14) – learning to be humble in success and continue to build upon that success is key to continued successes. When things don’t go quite right, when the attempts in life are blocked, do we go back and review what caused things to go bad and change them or simply plod on, not learning from the mistake we made? Success and failure, learning from each and handling each with dignity and grace will move life forward and continue to reward the efforts made in reaching life’s goals.

The buildings of downtown Jacksonville FL are reflected in the waters of the flowing St. John’s as the World begins to celebrate yet another new year. The new year gives us time to reflect on the events of the past year and also allow us to speculate on the flow and direction of our lives as the new year and time for new opportunities arrives at midnight. Each new year gives us new hope, new opportunities and a spirit of optimism and renewal. What are your thoughts about the past year and what will you do in the new year to reach your goals?
