L'Arche Harbor House Calendar Launch

try_calendar_launch_101509_0104-2A long time ago in college, I volunteered at Sunland Center. Sunland Center was a home for developmentally disabled children. One of the nice aspects of the center was that they provided many activities for their clients that any other child might experience. My position at the center was to meet with the Boy Scout troop and provide assistance with their activities. It was truly one of the more rewarding experiences I have ever had.

A couple of years ago I was asked to shoot the calendar launch event for L’Arche Harbor House. It was a wonderful experience. I was once again working with the developmentally disabled, but this time they were adults. And not just that, they were artists.

The L’Arche Harbor House residents each year create works of art that are placed into their calendar. The studio of the artists is the Rainbow Workshop. The calendar is sponsored by area restaurants such as Seven Bridges, TacoLu, Burrito Gallery and Santioni’s – to name a few. The restaurants provide discounts to those that have purchased a calendar as well as support to L’Arche Harbor House.

This year’s launch was no different from those in the past. Once again, a wonderful time was had by the attendees enjoying good food and drink provided by sponsors of the calendar. The silent auction of the original artworks further served to help out the residents of L’Arche Harbor House. For more information or to purchase a calendar, click here.

Festival D'Vine

It was my privilege to shoot Festival D’Vine on November 9. This was the sixth year for the festival run by Catholic Charities. The event took place in San Marco Square under cool, clear skies. Over 300 varieties of wine were available for sampling along with foods from some of Jacksonville’s finest restaurants. A portion of the proceeds go towards Catholic Charities to help support their programs in the community. It is a great event for a good cause. For more information go to the Catholic Charities web site. If you enjoy good wines and friendly company, be sure to check out the Festival D’Vine in 2010. To view images of the event go here.

Be sure to mark your calendars for April 10, 2010 – this is the date for Black and White Ball. This is another great event sponsored by Catholic Charities. See you there!

The Bishop Kenny Crusaders went to the land of Mickey to take on cross state rival Bishop Moore in the Amway Arena on Saturday, December 20, 2008. In a tightly fought contest, the Crusaders prevailed over the Hornets. I had the privilege of shooting the game for BK and attending that night’s Magic vs Lakers game in the arena. The team enjoyed the opportunity to play in an NBA arena, even if the stands were less than packed. To view more photos from the game please visit the event gallery.

Festival D'Vine 2008

Catholic Charities was blessed on this evening with beautiful weather and a great crowd for their annual Festival D’Vine. The event is a fund raiser for Catholic Charities of Jacksonville that brings wine merchants, restaurants and a local cigar vendor to San Marco Square for an evening of socializing and sampling.
